Ah… the week of love! Okay, maybe not really. Maybe it really is just a trumped up Hallmark holiday. But no mind, it still gives me a chance to talk about one of my loves without sounding too cheesy (no pun intended while I’m still on my dairy-free elimination diet). That’s right, one of my loves is food!
I reeeeeeeeeeally love food. And I don’t just mean that I love eating (which is, honestly, what I think a lot of people mean when they say they love food). I do love eating it, but I also love everything else about food! I love the taste and the texture. I love the way it gives life and energy. I love sharing it with others and the socialization we have built around that. I love that it can be soothing, exciting, sexy, adventurous, healing, informative, experimental, and fun. I love finding new ingredients and trying new recipes. I love inviting people over for a dinner party. I even plan vacations around the food that I will eat (never mind that I’ve been known to stay in a crappy hotel so I could spend more money on said food). And very few things bug me more than paying good money for mediocre or bad food.
I believe 100% that food should be good to eat as much as it is good for us. (After all, who wants to eat bland, boring food?) I believe that real food tastes better than any manufactured food-like product can taste, and is certainly more nourishing to our bodies and minds. I believe that the right diet (ie, way of eating) for me is not the right way of eating for you because food is personal.
My vision is that all of us have a relationship with food that we enjoy and also keeps us healthy and vibrant. In other words, I believe that we all have the right to eat well and eat good. So, during this “week of love”, what can you do to make your relationship with food more fulfilling? Share your suggestions in the comments below.
