Monday Motivation: Act Dream Plan Believe

For any goal in any area of our lives, we must act and dream and plan and believe in order to achieve it. This is true whether we are finishing a triathlon, completing a graduate degree, starting a business… or becoming the very best version of ourselves.

I have no doubt that you can think of plenty of times you have done these four things to accomplish great things in your own life. So let’s talk about how to apply these to unlocking your personalized food chain so you can look and feel like the amazing person that you are…

We’ve talked a little bit about just doing “it” once we’ve decided what it is that we want to do. This is true when we decide we want to eat healthier also. You are an intelligent person, so I know that you have read lots about how to eat healthy.  So… just do it!

Of course, you don’t have to overhaul your entire diet. Start where you are and pick one thing that you’ve been wanting to change.  If you need a suggestion, a great first action is to get 5 servings of vegetables and fruits every day.

I don’t know who said it first, but we’ve all heard, “If you can dream it, you can achieve it.” This is true because you must be able to see the outcome in your mind before you can work towards it.

To use the full power of food, you must start imagining what it will feel like when the foods you choose to eat have you looking and feeling your best. Visualize what you will look like when you are at a weight where you feel completely comfortable. Imagine how relaxed you will be when your digestive system functions perfectly and doesn’t cause discomfort. See yourself doing everything you want to do because you are full of energy and your joints don’t ache.

While having the end goal in mind is necessary to know when you’ve arrived, you also have to have a plan to get there.  After all, you don’t just jump to point Z from point A. You have to figure out what B, C, D, etc. are to get from where you are right now to where you want to go.

If you’re not sure what the steps of your plan should be, seek out information from reputable sources (there are lots of really good ones related to food… like this blog!), join a group program to get ideas, or ask an expert for personalized help.

In psychology the term self-efficacy is used to describe someone’s belief that his or her behaviors will result in a performance result. Research has shown time and again that your belief that your behaviors will bring about the result you desire is critical to you actually achieving the result you want. This isn’t some hocus pocus theory. Rather, if you don’t believe it will work, you won’t actually take the steps to find out!

You must believe that you can choose foods that will impact how you look and feel.  Because once you believe it, you can dream about what the outcome will look like.  Once you have visualized the result, you can put a plan in place to get you there. And once you have the plan, you can act on that plan. Then, it’s only a matter of continuous effort to achieve the great thing you want to achieve!
